We want to locate an bilingual Christian school near a city like Ramon Santana. Ramon Santana is near over one hundred sugarcane villages. The school will serve those living in these “bateyes” who make their living cutting sugarcane. Our goal is to be able to provide scholarships to the children living in those villages. We have members of our team who want to specifically focus on building relationships and discipling in the villages. We will run essentially 10-week VBS-type programs that are geared towards seeing kids come to Christ and then developing them in their faith. The kids who receive scholarships will also have a member of the team working in the village as a mentor. Being proficient in English is one more skill that is marketable within the Dominican Republic and, we will work towards accreditation with SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) which will at least provide the opportunity for kids to potentially come to the US for college where they may be able to return to their country in a leadership role. In this way, we pray that God would call from “the least of these” men and women who would saturate their own culture and ooze Christ in multiple disciplines and fields. As our team works within the villages, we also hope that churches will be planted that will be able to go and plant other churches in other villages. Finally, we would like our Christian school to be able to serve as a model for what Christian education could become and so we want to work to get short-term teams, especially from Christian high schools to come for a week and work in the village alongside of our students as well as providing them with the chance to work in and experience the school.
